Determining Seat Height

 

  • Seat Height for Open V and I Cages - Measured from floor to the top of the seat rail. Standard is 17" rear and 18" front. The 1" difference gives a slight bucket for stability. Trunk length should also be considered: a long trunk person may sit lower and short trunked person, higher. The kneeling position requires a minimum of 17" rear and 18" front to allow room for legs and feet.

 

  • Seat and Knee Height for U cage - Measured from floor to the top of the seat rail. Standard is 17" rear. The lower the spinal cord injury the lower the knee height and this is always measured using the elite athlete's existing chair.  Trunk length should also be considered: a long trunk person may sit lower and short trunked person, higher. The kneeling position requires a minimum of 17" rear seat height to allow room for legs and feet.
